The array of mediums and cohesive style made the art feel more immersive rather than just decorative. Outside, the Virgin Voyages ship had a playground for grownups with giant seesaws and swing sets, a jumbo-sized chess set, a foosball table, and a basketball court. These activities made me feel like a kid again without all the screaming and rushing around. Royal Caribbean’s Radiance-class ships are known for their views as they have lots of glass walls, glass elevators to outside and some wonderful viewing areas. As these ships can access smaller cruise ports, you’ll find some really interesting itineraries to places like the Panama Canal, Alaska, the Eastern Mediterranean and Australia. They may be a little older and a little smaller, but Freedom-class ships have plenty to enjoy. Refurbishments of these ships have seen the addition of lots of exciting features such as The Perfect Storm Waterslides, escape rooms and laser tag.
I cruised in the school holidays and I can attest that it did feel bust with so many kids onboard. The Voyager Class introduced some of Royal’s most popular features, such as the ice rink and has since been upgraded with extra water slides, but Mariner of the Seas never feels too busy or in-your-face. Reviews keep referring to it as a “really nice” ship – great for getting a taste of the Royal experience without feeling crowded.
